Vertigo
The exhibition
The Fondation Carmignac had the good idea of setting up shop on the island of Porquerolles, off the coast of Hyères in the Var region, in a former farmhouse - the same one where Godard filmed Pierrot le Fou in 1965 - before being transformed into a villa and, from 2014, an art foundation.
In this picturesque setting, watched over by Barceló's Alycastre, the foundation invites a curator each year to design a group exhibition in connection with the site. This year, Matthieu Poirier has imagined “Vertigo”, taking advantage of the island's natural surroundings, which are at once aquatic, telluric, aerial and cosmic, making it the ideal setting for an unprecedented exploration of the affinities between the perception of natural phenomena and abstraction since the 1950s.
