"Painting is no longer anything other than a profession, but it is a quite extraordinary profession that allows one to convey a message, an infirmation, not of the order of truth but of a questioning. Since the invention of photography, painting is no longer in the field of representation but in that of interpretation, in a way, it is freed from the image and can do what it wants, whether it is abstractions or figurations.
