Vulnerables

It was obvious that the Vulnerables exhibition would find its place in the large Saint-Louis chapel at the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital. That’s how discussions began with Professor David COHEN, who conceived and led the project.
Because the history of the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital is intimately linked to that of women who were confined, marginalized and sidelined by the society of their time. Because even today, our great hospital welcomes human frailty in all its forms, from the first to the last breath of life. Because art leads us to
think, see and hear this fragility. Because our grand chapel is a majestic showcase, a jewel to be discovered, a place of union between health and culture.
In the year 2025, when mental health has been declared a major national cause, and the anniversary of Jean-Martin Charcot’s birth is celebrated, we felt it was essential to support this groundbreaking exhibition, which brings together international artists as well as major works by renowned artists such as Jean Dubuffet, Johan Creten and Michel Nedjar.
It is therefore with great pleasure that the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital welcomes you today to discover this rich exhibition. You’ll find works whose common denominator is a sensitive look at the theme of vulnerability, whatever its form. You’ll also
get to know a little-known Parisian building, a breathing space for the hospital community and a place of cultural inspiration for Parisians. As an ambitious restoration project takes shape to renovate the building, the Chapelle Saint-Louis is destined to
become a key venue for dialogue between culture and healthcare. In 2024, nearly 30,000 cultural visitors have already passed through its doors, discovering an abundant program of exhibitions, concerts, theatrical performances, conferences...
Enjoy your visit to the Vulnerables exhibition and your immersion in the Chapelle Saint-Louis!
