Des origines de la collection à aujourd'hui
The exhibition
Switzerland: the origins, peaks and valleys of Art Brut
It was during a seminal trip to Switzerland in 1945 that Jean Dubuffet developed his concept of Art Brut, inspired by his contacts and discoveries there. In 1976, the City of Lausanne enabled him to open to the public the centre he had hoped for, providing a permanent home for a collection that had since grown substantially. Fifty years on, the institution is revisiting the Swiss dimension of this endeavour, exhibiting 300 works created in Switzerland—striking in their diversity—by some forty artists from the collection, whilst announcing its expansion with an architectural competition for a new building.
