The exhibition

The Paquebots exhibition returns to the MuMa in Le Havre after a highly successful run at the Musée d'art in Nantes, to tell the story of these famous steel giants. A jewel of technology in the industrial age, the ocean liner (from the English ‘packet-boat’) was essential to the smooth flow of intercontinental trade. The liner carried mail, but also people to cover its extra costs. The flagship of the French fleet, the Normandie, designed by engineer Vladimir Yourkevitch in 1935, is one of the most emblematic. With a length of three hundred metres, it is the fastest ship of its time, and fascinates with its imposing, lanky silhouette.
