The exhibition

“Water takes on the color of its recipient,” professed the Sufi of Baghdad Junayd in the 8th century, expressing the multiplicity of paths to access Sufism. As the setting for the Museum of Sufi Art and Culture (MACS) opened at the end of last September, the choice of a bourgeois residence on the banks of the Seine in Chatou was therefore intriguing. But if this location is surprising, the dialogue between some 70 pieces from the collections of the MTO school (for Maktab Tarighat Oveyssi, named after the founder of a Sufi lineage dating back to the time of Mohammed, at the initiative of the MACS) and the works of seven contemporary artists that the museum director Alexandra Baudelot has created for the inaugural exhibition Un ciel intérieur is harmonious, avoiding the pitfall of too clear a distinction as to their respective statuses.
