Robert Ryman. Le regard en acte.
The exhibition
Robert Ryman (1930-2019), an American painter born in Nashville, saw himself as a jazz musician and received what he called his "very good education" by observing works at the MoMA from his position—as a guard at the MoMA in New York for seven years. He is known as the painter of the white square, even though he is not the reference for the white canvas in Yasmina Reza's 1994 play "Art," which actually refers to Martin Barré's work. It's a great initiative to revisit, in Paris, after Ryman's exhibition at the Pompidou Center in 1981 and the understated exhibition by Claude Berri at Renn Espace in 1991, a mini-retrospective of his work, although it is somewhat overshadowed by the didacticism of its presentation...
