The exhibition

Pierre Alechinsky sails a sea of papers with a coasting brush, sometimes a pooch, a travelling brush. "Carta" is the Latin name for paper, and this lover of paper has painted extensively on maps. Geographical maps, city plans, aerial navigation charts, all explored with the quick point of his brush and from which he drew allusive, colourful images. At the age of ninety-five, Pierre Alechinsky still dances with his painting. And that's why his cards dance!

In the upper rooms of the Château de Chaumont, intimate and labyrinthine, which open out vertiginously onto a panorama of the Loire, Pierre Alechinsky - who, as a child during the 1940 exodus, crossed the Loire to take refuge in Aveyron with his family - displays a lifetime of drawings, etchings, lithographs, wall prints and bibliophile works, all linked to books and nature.
