The exhibition


Proposing a new figuration, then called Neo-Romanticism in the context of the rise of abstraction, the names of Christian Bérard, Thérèse Debains, Kristians Tonny, Pavel Tchelitchew or Eugène and Léonide Berman do not appear or hardly appear in the history of art... In presenting their work, the exhibition at the Musée Marmottan-Monet takes as its starting point their hanging in 1926 at the Galerie Druet on the Rue Royale, when they had barely graduated from Vallotton's and Denis's courses at the Académie Ranson. Closely related to Picasso's blue and pink periods, it is even more an eclecticism that guides them, sometimes invoking the metaphysical painting of Chirico, sometimes the refined layout of their former symbolist teachers, all the more diverse as it brings together cosmopolitan personalities.
