Unaccustomed to monographic exhibitions - the last one was the invitation extended to Martin Parr in 2011 -, the Institute of Islamic Cultures (ICI) is taking the risk of devoting its 2021-2022 winter season to a single figure: the Iranian-Australian Hossein Valamanesh. Born in 1949 in Tehran and living in Adelaide, Hossein Valamanesh enjoys a certain recognition in his adopted country and more widely in the Asia-Pacific region. Present in major public and private collections as well as in the public space through monumental commissions, his work remains virtually unknown to the French-speaking circuit. Conceived by Bérénice Saliou in close collaboration with the artist, the exhibition Puisque tout passe and its 26 pieces created between 1985 and 2021 allows us to retrace the different chapters of Hossein Valamanesh's artistic and personal trajectory, allowing us to enter into his vocabulary, his reference points and his obsessions.
