The exhibition

Constructed from a hundred or so works, almost all from the Centre Pompidou's collections, this Dubuffet retrospective in Martigny gives an insight into the aspirations of a refractory artist who was determined to remain so, for whom subjectivity alone was to guide his action.

"Tumultuous disorder of images, of births of images, of fading of images, which overlap and intermingle, debris of memories of our spectacles mixed with purely cerebral and internal facts - visceral perhaps", saw Jean Dubuffet in the bloated landscape of which seems to be melted his Traveler without compass of 1952.
