Christine Jean was born in Le Havre in 1957. Steeped in the learned lessons of the Impressionists and the ardour of Joan Mitchell's gestures, she was won over by the teachings of calligraphic painting, which she came close to during her many visits to Asia. Her work is based on the use of materials - a play of textures, pure and mixed colours, solarisation effects, haloing, wandering focus - and her works cannot be read in a univocal way. The chromatic interplay goes beyond the rules of representational logic. Christine Jean loves nature and paints it: wild places, immense and undefined, through which man has passed, leaving the emptiness of his absence. Her landscapes are immersed in an enchanted solitude, a timeless atmosphere suspended between past and present that draws us beyond ourselves...
