Christine Safa, who graduated from the Beaux-Arts in Paris in 2018, is one of a generation of young painters - along with her friends Jean Claracq, Nathanaëlle Herbelin, Simon Martin and Elené Shatberashvili, brought together in 2022 by the exhibition Entre tes yeux et les images que j'y vois at the Fondation Ricard - for whom a sentimental dimension, rather than being rejected, affects the work of painting. For Safa, this is achieved through a limited number of subjects: her own face, that of her partner Nathan Berthet, also a painter, and Mediterranean landscapes, which her Lebanese ties have given her since childhood as privileged moments. "The Lebanon I know, even though I spend time there every year, is not the Lebanon of my grandparents who have always lived there, nor that of my parents who came to live in France, but there is a certain light that connects me to it", she explains.
