Torgia

1934 (Madrid)
Living in : Paris
Working in : Paris

Born in Madrid in 1936, Torgia arrived in Paris in 1957, where she met Jorge Camacho on December 4, 1959. For several decades, she developed her work in Camacho's shadow, without revealing it to the public. It was through contact with surrealists André Breton, Jorge Camacho, Matta, Wifredo Lam, Toyen and Konrad Klapheck, whom she met at the surrealist café "Promenade de Vénus", that her style developed and asserted itself, working in pastel and paint. In 1962, she met Alain Gruger, a friend of Camacho, with whom she shared her life after his death. In June 2021, the Sophie Scheidecker gallery held an exhibition of her work, revealing her to the public.
