With TNT in America, Jochen Gerner also confronts Hergé and his almost eponymous album. Gerner reappropriates his work and filters it to exacerbate one of its aspects. No more box, no more drawing, no more story. Tintin is absent and his decor is swallowed by a vast redaction. A few words, a few sound signs and a few pictograms float, here and there, on the surface of this black ink tide. Disturbed by the darkness, the reader crosses this album blindly, trying not to stumble, startled when doors slam or guns ring out. A comic book author, press illustrator and gallery artist, Gerner will work with the same process on other objects, from maps to photographs.
