Eminently plastic, François Rouan's art reflects a chromatic sensitivity that has not been hindered by the figuration-abstraction quarrel: he has the will to constitute the painting as a specific object but shows no aggressiveness towards the "figure". Moreover, like Marc Devade or Louis Cane, he belongs to the new abstract generation attached to the cultural memory of the painting and to the history of modern painting. His inspiration is fed by Mondrian and Klee, by American abstract painting, but also by Cézanne and Matisse.
