The young Eddy, born in 1991, grew up in a Kinshasa cut off from his deep roots. Comic books - American Marvel and especially Japanese manga, which he copied assiduously - fed his imagination. Despite his parents' reservations, the elder of two boys in a family of seven children enrolled at the Institute of Fine Arts, then joined the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa in 2010. The student is passionate about painting, working hard to master the techniques to the point of quickly exceeding the level taught. However, the academy did not like the path he took, which they considered too "pub". Is it because of the medium used? In homage to his mother, who sells them, Eddy Kamuanga uses flip-flops as the first support for his portraits. In this way, he also evokes the memory of the victims of rubber exploitation during colonisation.
