Painter and poet, born in Beirut in 1925, Etel Adnan is Lebanese and American. She studied philosophy at the Sorbonne, Berkeley and Harvard. She writes poetry, essays and plays. First painting exhibition in 1960 in California, while teaching philosophy of art. Solo exhibitions around the world: USA, France, Germany, UK and several Arab countries. Numerous public and private collections throughout the world: National Museum for Women in the Arts (Washington), World Bank Collection (Washington), Institut du monde arabe (Paris), British Museum (London), Nicolas Sursock Museum (Beirut), Museum of Contemporary Art (Tunis), Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art (Doha), Contemporary Crafts Museum (New York, Los Angeles). After living in California for a long time, Etel Adnan now lives mainly in Paris.
