Valérie Favre's paintings demand a great deal of availability from the viewer. Of Swiss-Romanian origin, the artist lived in Paris for a long time before moving to Berlin fifteen years ago, where she teaches painting at the Akademie der Künste. She is developing a reflection on the possibility that painting can make sense with the help of images from old paintings but also from the cinema and the theatre. More than twenty years ago, the artist was already questioning Géricault's painting, The Raft of the Medusa. Valérie Favre works in the mode of a series; since 2011, she has been producing a new series entitled Fragments, predominantly black, speckled with luminous flashes, looking like cosmic visions. Fascinating and disconcerting at the same time for those familiar with her work.
