Artemisia Gentileschi
1593 (Naples) / 1652
During the first half of the 17th century, Artemisia Lomi Gentileschi was a precursor of Baroque painting, taking on the Caravaggio style and the master's inventions: dramatic appearance, powerful theatrical effects, clear drawing, subtle lighting. Traveling throughout Italy, she succeeded in imposing herself as a woman painter in the circle of the Medici and Charles I of England.
