Arnold Fokam is a young visual artist born in Cameroon in 1996. He lives and works in Douala. His work revolves around a multi-disciplinary practice that explores performance, photography, painting, assemblage, sound creation and installation. A graduate in visual arts and art history from the Institut des Beaux-Arts at the University of Douala in Nkongsamba, his general training led him to painting on canvas before experimenting with other media such as photography.
An artist of dreams and utopias, his work has a spiritual, cultural and ecological dimension. His work is permeated by themes of protecting the planet and celebrating life.
Arnold Fokam is the winner of the 2020 Goethe Découverte Prize / Visual Arts, the Prix Découverte des Ateliers SAHM and the Prix Barthélémy TOGUO in 2023. His work can be found in a number of private and public collections, including those of the Goethe Institut and the Doual'art Contemporary Art Centre.
