"At first there were no figures. The human figure appeared when a domestic white rabbit I was painting died. I replaced it with a rabbit mask. From then on, the figures appeared, masked, in my work. I couldn't represent the face directly, it seemed very difficult and not necessarily very interesting. But, with time, this mask fell off and I was able to represent the figure more freely. My relationship with the subject, at the beginning, was very intimate. I was questioning what might be behind the mask. It turns out that this makes sense because my painting itself speaks of this. It is a painting whose gesture is hidden behind the transparent support."
