Plossu and Granet, poetics of effacement

Grace, picturesqueness: terms symptomatic of the aesthetics of Granet and Plossu, which in fact justify their interest in Rome and explain the kinship of the Musée d'Aix - the city of which Granet is the emblematic painter - with Italy. With a hundred or so photographs covering the period from the late 1970s to 2017 echoing Granet's washes, watercolours and drawings, the exhibition forms a harmonious whole revealing the permanence of an ancient nature and city over which time has no hold, and of their beauty in front of which the artist fades.
