Piero Della Francesca

1412 (Sansepolcro) / 1492 (Sansepolcro)

He is one of the major painters of perspective in the 15th century. On the theme of the Queen of Sheba and King Solomon, part of the fresco in the Basilica of San Francesco is commented on by Paul Louis Rossi "But it is not the silhouettes, nor the stature of the characters that retain us. It is the look that they exchange, and the two black eyes, visible of the young woman, indescribable in the intensity, the precision, the will of the feeling and the desire. In her gaze, it is a choice that she puts on this young man, whom she only seems to cross by chance in Eden. But it is obvious that the girl, at the same time, asks the spectator for his approval. This is what we could say now. Piero Della Francesca is above all that, the intensity of the look. The one of the protagonists of the painting, and the one they look for, beyond space and time, in the eyes of the lost traveler".
